Labs Announces Pearl S. Buck International Earns Arts and Culture Recovery Program Grant
12/19/2023
HARRISBURG – Rep. Shelby Labs (R-Bucks) today announced that Pearl S. Buck International, located in Hilltown, has received a $54,429 grant from the Pennsylvania Arts and Culture Recovery Program.

“I am thrilled to see Pearl S. Buck International receive this well-deserved grant,” said Labs. “This grant will allow new marketing opportunities for the history museum and the historical site, both of which I recently toured. The tour provided great insights on Pearl S. Buck as a human and the impact she had on the Hilltown area at the end of her life. This grant will allow more people to have the same experience I did at the historical site and museum.”

Pearl S. Buck was a Nobel Prize-winning author, winning the Nobel Prize for literature in 1938. She wrote about her experiences as a daughter of missionaries to China, growing up in Zhenjiang, as well as her time there as a teacher in Nanjing at the University of Nanking in the 1920s. In her later years, she established the first permanent foster home for U.S. born, mixed-race children of Asian descent, which was located in the same area in Hilltown.
