HARRISBURG - Rep. Shelby Labs (R-Bucks) has been named to four standing committees within the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 2021-22 Legislative Session. They are the Commerce, Game and Fisheries, Human Services, and Urban Affairs committees.
“I am thrilled to be given such a strong, diverse list of committees for my first term,” Labs said. “My family has been deeply involved in our community, which has given me the opportunity to really get to know the people of the 143rd District and ensure their interests and concerns are represented in each of these committees.”
The committees are where all bills are first sent and reviewed. During the committee process, amendments can be offered, discussion on the bills takes place and sometimes public or informational hearings are held to gather more information on a legislative issue before a vote is taken on whether or not to advance a bill for a vote before the full House.
Labs was assigned to the Commerce Committee, which is responsible for originating legislation and overseeing implementation of programs which affect Pennsylvania companies; the Game and Fisheries Committee which receives and reviews annual performance and status reports from the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission; the Human Services Committee, which considers legislation that impacts the Department of Human Services and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs; and the Urban Affairs Committee, which reviews legislation affecting the state’s largest cities.
“I believe my experience will play a very important role in crafting and dissecting legislation during committee meetings,” Labs said. “I’m looking forward to working alongside my colleagues to produce legislation that will improve and impact not only our community, but every corner of the Commonwealth.”
